Instructions: On the following pages are six essay questions. You must choose ONE question and write a 2000 word essay in response. PLEASE NOTE: You must only draw on the performances presented as case studies in weeks 2-12 in this course (see p.4), and not on the performance from your own fieldwork exercise.
Use information and examples from the lectures, screenings, readings and tutorial discussions in your answers. Supplement these with your own independent research and readings using resources in the UNSW Library. Use the essay format, use proper citations, and include a list of references just as you would for any research essay.
For essay writing guidelines see the Learning Centre website, http://www.lc.unsw.edu.au, which offers advice on how to structure, reference and synthesise information in your essay. It also explains how to avoid plagiarism: https://student.unsw.edu.au/academic-skills
Question 4.Social choreographies have several characteristics; they often call for a response, can unite participants through physical means, demonstrate physical knowledges, ‘twice-behaved behaviours’ as well as original gestures, and can express social identity within a collective performance.
How do the social choreographies involved in TWO dance forms discussed in this course critique, sustain or re-imagine the status quo through these various means?
