In this paper you will discuss how Oedipus fulfills the role of the tragic hero in Sophocles’ play, Oepidus the King. You should discuss what you think his hamartia is and how it brought about his downfall. Was it his pride? Was it his birthright? Or was it something else? You should have a clear thesis statement, and in the body of the paper, you should support your thesis. Tell me your opinion in your own words. The next step is to back up your ideas with quotations from the text. Ideally, you should use at least ONE block quotation and quotations of THREE LINES OR LESS in this part of this assignment.
The next part of the paper, I want you to focus on your own life experiences. Have you experienced a hamartia in your life? Do you have a tragic flaw that keeps getting you into trouble? Have you ever made a tragic error that changed your life forever? How has your hamartia influenced your life?If you feel like you have nothing to write about, you may be creative and make up a story about your life. You may write about anything as long as you focus on the concept of hamartia.
Final paragraph is your summary and conclusion. This is where you will tie all of your ideas together. The last sentence should be something memorable. This sentence should leave the reader with something to think about.
