In module 1 and 2, you learned a great deal about you dietary intake (or your volunteer’s dietary intake). In this module, we are going to explore actual dietary needs. We will use several calculators to discover how much of each of the macro-nutrients you (or your volunteer) needs.
Go to https://www.choosemyplate.gov/SuperTracker/default.aspx and please calculate:
Your (or your volunteer’s) daily protein needs.
Your (or your volunteer’s) daily fiber needs.
Your (or your volunteer’s) daily carbohydrate needs.
Your (or your volunteer’s) daily fat needs.
Once you have calculated the daily dietary needs of each of the macro-nutrients for you or your volunteer, you will prepare a table that:
1. Compares daily protein needs with the actual protein consumed in your calculations from module one (worth 20 percent of your papers grade).
2. Compare daily fiber needs with actual fiber consumed in your calculations from module one (worth 20 percent of your papers grade).
3. Compare daily carbohydrate needs with actual carbohydrates consumed in your calculations from module one (worth 20 percent of your papers grade).
4. Compare daily fat needs with actual fat consumed in your calculations from module one (worth 20 percent of your papers grade).
5. Briefly discuss the differences (for example, was one macro-nutrient consumed in excess while another macro-nutrient was deficient?) (worth 20 percent of your papers grade).
6. Provide a summary of your findings. Discuss whether you met the recommended intake. If not, provide a recommendation on dietary modifications to meet those recommendations.
